The keyboard is inoperable, so I have to cycle power to get out of the situation. Obviously, this is not a SuSE issue, but the nv driver issue. What _is_ a SuSE issue is that the installation code can verify that the video driver is working correctly before making a permanent installation. You can well imagine how much work it takes to reboot into run level 3 and then try to divine what went wrong. There are _no_ error messages, you know. The driver thinks everything is fine and dandy. It is just that nobody ever types anything in. Nothing wrong with that. Eventually after a couple of re-installs and a couple of dozen reboots, I finally got the nvidia driver downloaded and the configuration hand merged from one of the working OS images I had on my disk. I think the process was too hard. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Buy an nVidia GeForce 9400 GT card 2. Install it 3. Install 11.2 Actual Results: Black screen and non-responsive keyboard. The system boots but all kde session data is lost and the login screen is presented. I have figured out that /usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/10NetworkManager causes the problem. I have created an empty /etc/pm/sleep.d/10NetworkManager. After that everything works again. Without the fiz above, I tried susccessfully with s2ram --force, but pm-suspend didn't work. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Initiate suspend to ram. 2. Resume from suspend. 3. Actual Results: KDE session lost and back to login screen. Expected Results: All session data should have been resumed. This makes it impossible to control the volume level on a per application basis when the main volume control MUST remain at a certain set level (for example, as to prevent distortion or clipping in amplified speakers). When the controls are merged, increasing the volume of 1 quiet application using the sound preferences panel increases the output volume of all applications. Please default to volume = ignore in /usr/share/pulseaudio/alsa-mixer/paths/analog-output.conf, or at least make is configurable such that patches to pulseaudio do not clobber this file if it has been corrected by the end user. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. fix /usr/share/pulseaudio/alsa-mixer/paths/analog-output.conf, so that volume = ignore globally 2. update pulseaudio 3. changes made in step 1 have been clobbered by the update. Actual Results: Changes made to configure pulse audio so that per application volume control is actually possible are overwritten by the updated package. I tried several options (failsafe, no dmca, 800x600, ...) but always the same result: when the system switches to the ldesktop the screens goes black (or shows the 4 basic colors with "acpi=off" or "nomodeset"). I installed sax2 and tried sax2 -r -m 0=nv (as well as 0=nouveau or 0=vesa) always identical results. There is only 1 graphical device (tested with sax2 -p) I also tried runlevel 3 and Xorg -configure: Screen goes blank with one small underscore in the upper-left corner. No terminal (ctrl-alt F2 etc) available, no access - only power off helps anymore. OpenSUSE seems to run pretty fine - otherwise (going into another terminal doesn't show any problems) ALL openSuSE versions (at least since 10.0) have been running on this PC very well.(Just now I'm using 11.2 with Nvidia - driver. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Start LiveCD 2. 3. Actual Results: reproducing is quite straightforward - start LiveCD Expected Results: I'd prefer to see the desktop I have more files e.g. from /var/log - and even screenshots with the camera (the failed sax2 ..)
