SaX2 is unable to properly configure the display. I was never able to complete the installation, but I can boot into runlevel 3 without graphics. Runlevel 5 makes the computer crash even using safe settings at the splash screen. Reproducible: Always I have found some information online to the effect that X can be fully enabled on the Dell Inspiron 1100, but have been unable to achieve the proper results. I have the lastest version A32 of BIOS and have enabled 8mb of video memory as suggested here http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/suse-linux-help/112674-ubuntu-open-suse-de… and here http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=49261 I also tried to manually create an appropriate xorg.conf with no success. When I try to compile a bigger project (mozilla: it runs its own JS interpreter during build) it fails because of that qemu issue. Searching for issues on the net revealed that qemu should be run with mmap_min_addr set to 4096. openSUSE sets 65536 as CONFIG_DEFAULT_MMAP_MIN_ADDR. So one would expect that it can be fixed by setting the mmap_min_addr sysctl and apparently it also gets used (the value in sysctl changes as expected). The error just doesn't go away though. So I've recompiled the kernel with CONFIG_DEFAULT_MMAP_MIN_ADDR=4096 CONFIG_LSM_MMAP_MIN_ADDR=4096 and with that kernel everything is working fine. Disclaimer: I don't have much experience in kernel hacking but I've tried to follow the code but fail to see why that happens. I found: dac_mmap_min_addr - is the default value and this can be changed by sysctl mmap_min_addr - is the maximum of dac_mmap_min_addr and CONFIG_LSM_MMAP_MIN_ADDR cap_file_mmap() is comparing against dac_mmap_min_addr and therefore shouldn't be the issue as setting sysctl didn't work. apparmor_file_mmap() checks against mmap_min_addr but I don't run apparmor actively on these processes. selinux_file_mmap() checks against CONFIG_LSM_MMAP_MIN_ADDR but I don't do anything with selinux -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

While the system seems to act fine afterwords, the system will not shutdown or suspend and sync commands freeze and become unkillable. A magic sysrq reisub is required to reboot and I believe I've lost some data a few times. Attached is 3 different bug entries, 2 for 2.6.31.8 and one for 2.6.31.12 which I tried hoping it fixed the problem.
