Just while debugging the issue, found we were doing some un-necessary operations. Just cleanup the code. Will commit the patch into svn trunk/stable. This is problem with evolution snapshots. The dependency for libical needs to be updated in EDS spec file. Maybe open a separate bug for that as this does not seems to relate to the original report (which was no delay in gtk/ncurses but very slow with qt, if I read the bug correctly).
