In the sqlite test, openSUSE 11.1rc1 lagged behind badly¹. Maybe there is a problem with that package? I don't see any other reason why there should be such a difference in performance... AFAIK the current query commands don't provide this possibility, e.g.: # zypper -v up -t package ........... The following packages are going to be upgraded: Xerces-c-2.8.0-29.28.i586 (openSUSE-11.1-Oss, openSUSE) acroread-8.1.3-51.6.i586 (openSUSE-11.1-Non-Oss, openSUSE) akonadi-runtime-1.0.81-1.2.i586 (KDE 4.2 development snapshots, openSUSE Build Service) ......... The repository is there and the to version as well. But the from package version is missing :( Output similar to this would be nice: # zypper -v up -t package ........... The following packages are going to be upgraded: Xerces-c: 2.7.0-75 -> 2.8.0-29.28.i586 (openSUSE-11.1-Oss, openSUSE) acroread: 8.1.3-1.1 -> 8.1.3-51.6.i586 (openSUSE-11.1-Non-Oss, openSUSE) akonadi-runtime: 1.0.0-31.27 -> 1.0.81-1.2.i586 (KDE 4.2 development snapshots, openSUSE Build Service) ......... Based on this it is easier to determine whether the package should be really updated or not. Sometimes a package is undergoing a major update, like: kde4-xxx: 4.1.3 -> 4.1.85 In this case the package should not be updated. But the above information this (not updated) can be determined, with the current zypper output command this is not so easy: kde4-xxx-4.1.85.i586..... (now should it be updated or not????) This command does neither show the to package version: # zypper list-updates -r repo-oss Loading repository data... Reading installed packages... GNU getopt allows me to shorten it to --no-r but still, always having to type that just so that zypper does not offer me tons of packages would be good, and would also match apt-get behavior. In section "Computer Administration" click the "Time & Date" icon. Check the checkbox "Set date and time automatically" and enter a server in the dropdown list. Click "Apply". In the terminal, you get a message on stderr saying that ntpdate is deprecated and replaced by ntpd. Additionally, ntpdate is used for a single manual sync and not for keeping time synced. So next time you go to the same dialog, the checkbox has been cleared so you can manually sync again if you like. Start /usr/bin/systemsettings (or Configure Desktop from menu). Click the "Date & Time" icon in the "Computer Administration" section. Scroll through the list in the bottom half of the screen and select any timezone. Click "Apply" and type root password as requested in dialog. Close System Settings and reopen - if the time zone has been changed at all, it is not the one you selected.
