However, if you use osc with the -A option to use another API server, it doesn't give you the correct command line. Example: $ osc -A api.suse.de branch SUSE:SLE-11:GA gtk2 A working copy of the branched package can be checked out with: osc co home:federico-mena:branches:SUSE:SLE-11:GA/gtk2 # great! Let's cut&paste that... $ osc co home:federico-mena:branches:SUSE:SLE-11:GA/gtk2 Server returned an error: HTTP Error 404: Not Found # oops, I guess I need to specify -A myself... $ osc -A api.suse.de co home:federico-mena:branches:SUSE:SLE-11:GA/gtk2 A home:federico-mena:branches:SUSE:SLE-11:GA A home:federico-mena:branches:SUSE:SLE-11:GA/gtk2 .. However, one problem I experienced is that systems running OpenSUSE 11.0 cannot access a system running OpenSUSE 11.1, using XDMCP. After logging on to the remote system, the screen goes black, except for the mouse cursor. The keyboard is also locked. It is possible to connect to the system, with the locked console, by ssh or XDMCP, so the CPU has not locked up, only the keyboard & display. This issue also occurred with the upgrade to 11.0. Why should XDMCP be sensitive to OpenSUSE versions? At me the computer starts to hang if I switch to another vt; after resume from s2ram the screen stays dark and last but not least the xinerama support does not allow to plug an external monitor after X has been started (restarting X requires a reboot because you produce a crash otherwise.) Fortunately the radeonhd driver works fine and stable at me. However its 3D support leaps back far behind that one of the commercial driver. Why not launch a project to improve the 3D support of radeonhd, so that programs like Google Earth will work well with the open source driver (current versions of google earth like 4.2 and 4.3 persistently crash at me anyway). This will also provide XEN-users with 3D support for their graphics cards. In general open source drivers are to prefer especially if no stable commercial counterpart is available. After an upgrade from 11.0 to 11.1, I had need of this feature (as the built-in info viewer is awful) and tried to use it. Not only did it not work, it looped forever and consumed large quantities of CPU. To test: open konqueror type (sans quotes) "info:gcc" and hit enter. After two days of digging, I found out the culprit -- automounting. Previously I had an entry for dvd drive, with iso9660 (it works for udf perfectly), now everything is automounted and with udf disc is it an ordeal -- each disc takes 3 minutes and 30 secons to mount (!) after noisy fight, a lot of work of drive. I am pretty convinced this is not healthy for the drive. mount -t auto /dev/sr0 /media/dvd --> 3.30 min + noise + drive struggle mount -t iso9660 /dev/sr0 /media/dvd or mount -t udf /dev/sr0 /media/dvd --> instantaneous mounting, silent operation My naive suggestion would be to change the auto behaviour -- try iso9660 first for the disc drives, after all it is most likely to work right away. If not, keep trying other formats.
