However with 11.0 we now have KDE3, KDE4 and GNOME differences (in addition to OpenOffice and the PDF readers). See the attached sample which shows rendering of a selection of apps and was obtained with a subpixel enabled truetype and a rebuild of libqt4 (so that it actually uses subpixel rendering). Not visible in this sample is the linespacing which also seems to be different between KDE4 apps and everything else (about 1 or 2 additional pixels per line depending on app). While what is considered nice rendering is obviously depended on personal taste and the used monitors (and therefore should be easily adjustable by the user) I consider the inconsistent rendering with identical settings a bug. Personally I strongly prefer the KDE3/firefox2 rendering (which seems to be like 10.2) on three out of the four TFTs I regularly use. KDE4 looks too gray and GNOME/Firefox3 too thin. I copied DejaVuSansCondensed.ttf to ~/.fonts using the KDE Control Center font installer, both on a 10.2 box and on a 10.3 box. The results were a bit different: While 10.2 displays the font name as "DejaVu Sans Condensed", 10.3 shows just "DejaVu Sans". I suspect this might be due to some changes in fontconfig, so I decided to put it under X.Org. On my computer, the ifup option never works and I have to switch to network manager option. The result of the sysconf(_SC_ARG_MAX) is 2097152, while ARG_MAX is defined to be 131072 in limits.h; the LSB compliance requires that either both are set to the same value, or ARG_MAX is undefined if there is no hard limit. The ethernet interface has a cable connected. I dont know if the wlan interface can be used at all in our office. After an installation from DVD, with autoconfiguration and gnome desktop, the configured interface was wlan. Why did yast prefer wlan over eth? What is supposed to happen if a system has an ethernet card with cable plugged in and an (unused) wlan device? Also, after yast2 lan was started, the gnome start menu still had the Network: wireless, Interface: wlan0 active. This changed after a rcnetwork restart. I expected that yast does update such info.
