The less experienced user will take what it offers for WEP encryption which is with an ASCII password. After several minutes, I hard reset the system, and skipped the last step. Not sure if this is related, but after installing (by skipping the last step) it logs me into the default user fine and the system is usable, but if I log out and try to log in, it authenticates fine but hangs with a blue background or the green default bg image - I can move the mouse, but no nautilus selection or context menu - just the bg. I am using a Dell Latitude 830 laptop with intel wireless, graphics, and hd sound. In all cases, if hangs just after: Loading CPUFreq modules (CPUFreq not supported) The machine has an ATI video controller. 1) With the VESA driver: It hangs with no message Disabling earlyxdm results in the boot completing, but then just the line: Starting service kdm done Then session 7 is a black screen. If you look in pthread.h, you'll see the cleanup handler code is different when compiling for C or C++. Effect: All Qt 4 applications can lock up on exit. Why: Qt's QThread class uses pthread's cleanup handlers to get notifications for when threads die on Unix. Because of what seems to be a gcc bug, this cleanup handler is not called on OpenSuSE 10.2. We have tested the same compiler version on other distributions, and it doesn't lock up there. Also, Intel's ICC does not cause this lockup. It's no matter if the access is via VNC or SDL. I don't even have to be connected to the running VM, moreover I don't even have to log in to KDE. It's enough to have the X server with, say kdm running. If the VM merely runs, the mouse pointer of X will get stuck into the top left corner in some time. It happens the following way: Fist time only the USB mouse's pointer gets stuck (!). It means that every time I touch the USB mouse, the mouse pointer gets immediately into the corner and stays there absolutely fixed while I move the USB mouse. During that time I still can work by the touchpad, until it also gets stuck! After that no more mouse movement is possible and I have to restart X somehow (e.g. by Ctrl+Alt!Backspace). I tried to pass the SDL_VIDEO_X11_DGAMOUSE=0 environment variable to qemu-dm (See: http://www.morphix.org/wiki/index.php/Qemu) by adding a line to /etc/init.d/xend. Moreover, I cannot duplicate that bug. My installations crash within 5-10 minutes of starting. But I ran "ping -f -q my.local.ip.address" for an hour with no problems: core1:/home/glen # ping -f -q my.local.ip.address PING nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn (nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn) 56(84) bytes of data. --- nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn ping statistics --- 196356167 packets transmitted, 196356167 received, 0% packet loss, time 3573391ms rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 0.010/0.010/30.037/0.003 ms, pipe 2, ipg/ewma 0.018/0.011 ms The ping flood ran successfully for hours under both the loopback address and the public-facing IPV4 address. * I am unable to install from the CD due to bugs in the vm-install python script. * My web server is just the stock apache2 server with the document root re-set to /opensuse, a directory off root which contains a copy of the installation CD. * All the troubleshooting steps in /usr/share/doc/packages/xen/README.SuSE have been followed, including booting with different kernel parameters such as pnpacpi=off, lapic, acpi=off, apm=off, noirqbalance, etc. * I also tried to grab output using sync_console, xm dmesg, etc. No log or serial output is generated, no evidence of a panic exists. The hardware... just.... stops. * Obviously, this bug prevents the use of Xen at all on any of my servers. (Plus, any bug which allows a domU instance to reach out and crash the dom0 box would certainly be a show-stopper in any event.) Please let me know how I can assist with the resolution of this bug, as we cannot move to 10.3 or use virtualization until this is corrected.
