I had to find (or extract from the rpm package) the fetchmsttfonts shell script itself, and run it manually, to have the fonts. The laptop has an embedded Intel LAN device. When Windows are shut down, it puts the LAN device into a kind of off state (probably for conserving power). Then, when Linux is booted afterwards, it is unable to use the LAN device; the r8169 driver says 'link not ready' or 'link down'. I have found no way to re-enable the card except booting back to Windows and enabling the 'WakeOnLan' switch of the card, which causes Windows not to switch off the card. RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller (rev 01) insmod r8169.ko works, and I get the following dword messages: eth0: RTL8168b/8111b at 0xffffc20000648000, 00:1a:4d:4c:e3:3a, IRQ 17 However, binding the adapter to an ip-adress with dhcp fails, and dmesg puts the following onto the screen: r8169: eth0: link down It seams that the driver thinks that the network cable is not attached correctly, but this is not true. The adapter works well under windows with the same physical connection. Unplugging the power-cable from the computer for 30 seconds helps. The first boot after unplugging the power-cable, everything works perfectly. I get the "(CPUFreq not supported)" message when haldaemon starts. This happens every time. So you would suppose the CPU really doesn't support it, but it works after doing "service haldaemon restart" as root, once I'm logged in. I can then control the CPU speed with KPowersave for example. So it looks like the startup script for haldaemon doesn't wait for the kernel modules to be loaded, and thinks they all fail while they are still loading...? Note that after startup, the various cpufreq modules aren't loaded, neither is acpi_cpufreq. But they are loaded after restarting haldaemon, and acpi_cpufreq works correctly.
