I wanted GNOME available as well, so I clicked "GNOME Desktop Environment" and then "GNOME Base System". First, when I clicked "GNOME Desktop Environment" it automatically selected "GNOME Base System", which I was not expecting. But I didn't have time to stop myself clicking it manually as well. Second, my subsequent click then caused the installer to hang for 30 seconds or more (and this is on a Core 2 Duo 2.33 GHz). After that time, it changed to a stop sign icon next to "GNOME Base System" and complained about a dependency failure. It really took long enough with no feedback or response to additional clicks that if I hadn't been writing this bug report, I would have rebooted. When returning to Software Selection following problem will be reported: java-1_4_2-gcj-conpat-1.4.2.0-65.i586[20061123-064029] Can't install java-1_4_2-gcj-conpat-1.4.2.0-65.i586[20061123-064029], since java-1_4_2-gcj-compat-1.4.2.0-65.x86_64[20061123-064029] is already marked as needing to be installed. The problem is that the default "enlightenment.desktop" file which is delivered with kdebase3-kdm is incorrect for e17 (enlightenment17 has to be started with "Exec=enlightenment_start" instead of "Exec=enlightenment"). The enlightenment17 package already contains a correct desktop file but the problem is that it won't be used by kdm because kdm looks first in "/opt/kde3/share/apps/kdm/sessions" for the desktop file and not in "/usr/share/xsessions". But there is no consensus about it yet. I.e. http://www.google.de gives the error message "cannot find the server". Only the pages which are still in the local cache can be displayed. When I delete the 32bit Firefox rpm and install the 64bit Firefox rpm, all pages can be resolved again. While this is a rather nice feature, it seems to block access to the task bar ( I think it's called "panel" in gnome, not sure though. I am referencing the bar across the bottom of the display containing various applets as well as showing open windows ).
