User packages should not require development packages. In this case, gtk-sharp2-gapi in turn pulls in a whole bunch of perl modules that no other package needs - it increases the size of a default GNOME installation by ~10MB. The dependency has been added because of directory ownership issues with /usr/share/gapi-2.0. Maybe you can solve this problem differently (e.g. via multiple directory ownership). When the virtual console 1 is active (where the bootsplash usually resides) is active on that freeze call, the silent image drops to verbose mode. I had a workaround in the suspend tools (suspend.sf.net) to solve this. I switched to console 1 _after_ the call to 'freeze'. But this doesn't work anymore because the console where the suspension is done is locked to prevent dumb users to switch to X after processes are frozen. I'll attach a simple C source file which makes it possible to easyly reproduce the issues. There some different scenarios to test: (1) - Silent splash on console 1 - Active console is 7 (or any other except 1) - Starting the test program (attached) switches to console 1 - When the 'freeze call' happens, the bootsplash drops to 'verbose mode' (2) - Silent splash on console 1 - Active console is 7 (or any other except the first) - When you don't switch to console 1 when the call to freeze happens, the freeze doesn't lead the silent splash on console 1 to disappear (3) - Silent splash on console 1 - Active console is 1 - _Foreground_ process running on console 1 (e.g. 'sleep 1000') - Call to freeze doesn't lead the silent splash on console 1 to disappear (3) is the same as (4) - starting the test program from console 1(which is a foreground process) also doesn't lead to the strange behaviour. That's the reason why I didn't notice this earlier because I always tested suspend from console 1. It's really strange, because at first I thought that if there is no foreground process on console 1, the console is just frozen. But if it is not active, console 1 isn't frozen either. The update-icon too took very long to show whether updates were available. I think that I found the reason. I start my computer and see zmd and update-status etc. taking 90% CPU and downloading a lot of data. Not nice, but at least they are working. After some minutes they stop, no CPU activity, no network-activity, nothing. However the update-tool still claims: Getting update list... This takes 30 minutes and the connection I am using is fast and was online all the time. During those 30 minutes one cannot shutdown zmd via rczmd, which is another bug. Yet even worse, one cannot update/install/remove software. Given that zmd updates x times a day, this means that the user cannot perform those tasks x*30 minutes just because one source does not respond. If zmd is not able to answer calls while trying to retrieve some file, then the timeout should be 30 seconds max. in order not to handicap services depending on it. On a machine that gets switched off several times a day (think: home user laptop, dual boot with windows for gaming), this eats up a HUGE amout of uptime during which the machine isn't really usable because zmd doing its refresh cranks up the load average to values way above what keeps a machine healthy. Having Zmd involves unnecessary syncing and zmd, update-status etc. take up ressources, afaik for no good at all. This is weird behavior because all of the other steps of adding the source (selecting type, typing adress) are done in the same window. Solution: Show the progress in the same window instead of opening a new one. I think there is no need for a seperated new window cause you cannot use underlying YaST inst_sources anyway. Even BETTER solution: Make it that way so you can add new other sources (typing info etc) while the YaST is adding one to the servicelist. This would be usefull when you want to add some large repo's and you really don't want to wait every time until a repo is added. I think the BEST solution: Download information not when 'adding' but when finishing. So after clicking Finish it shows the progressbar. ========================= Now: - add SUSE-repo - wait ten minutes watching progress-screen - add KDE-repo - wait ten minutes watching progress-screen - add GURU-repo Better: - add SUSE-repo (1st progress screen appears) - add KDE-repo (2nd progress screen appears) - add GURU-repo (3th progress screen appears) - drink some coffee, watch some TV and return 30 minutes later :D. All repo's added Best: - add SUSE-repo - add KDE-repo - add GURU-repo - Click Finish - drink some coffee, watch some TV and return 30 minutes later :D. All repo's added ======================== If we change to one of the better solutions please do not forget that I am away from computer so an error/warning should not delay the other tasks. It's about the dialog that can be accessed in the following ways: 1) Install gnome-bluetooth, run "gnome-obex-send /your/favourite/file". A dialog pops up and asks which device /your/favourite/file should be sent to. But this dialog is always empty and never shows any devices. 2) Install gnome-phone-manager and run it. From the context menu of the tray icon, choose "Preferences -> Connection -> Bluetooth -> Choose". The same dialog appears, with the same behaviour: It's always empty. 3) Install nautilus-sendto and right-click an arbitrary file in nautilus. From the context menu, choose "Send to -> Bluetooth". This time it's not exactly the same dialog, but a drop-down menu, and it's again always empty. This is not a matter of not having a connection - the following things are working just fine: - "hcitool scan" from the command line (finds all devices) - obexfs (the filesystem of a cell phone is successfully mounted) - kdebluetooth (file transfers are working) This is a regression, gnome-bluetooth worked correctly in SUSE 10.1. The bluetooth services have been started manually (/etc/init.d/bluetooth start) because of bug 214867 (but that should not matter).
