Well known candidate for this is the kernel package when executing mkinitrd. Mostly affects systems which have a small /boot partition. Impact: Kernel installation fails due to no space left on /boot. Unfortunately rpm does not treat a failed %post as an error. So we don't even recognize that the kernel installation failed. Solution: Ask autobuild to fake DU data by adding a reasonable extra ammount for these packages. 2) YUM metadata contain no DU data at all. This means that packages provided by YUM sources require no space. YUM uses an inffecient format to provide the packages filelists, and it does not contain any size information. Impact: As the rpm db provides disk usage information, patch installation can decrease the calculated ammount of required disk space (the installed package will release space, and the installed update will not require any space). Solution: Elaborate a more compact format, and provide (at least) information about the filetype (minimum whether it's a direcory or not) and filesize. Rpmtags denoting configfiles and documentation may be nice for the UI. Make sure both zmd and zen-updater are running 2. /etc/init.d/novell-zmd stop 3. Click the zen-updater tray icon Actual result: zen-updater displays the main window with the text "Getting update list" Expected result: zen-updater shows a popup window with the text "ZMD is not running" 4. It's because the ifcfg file doesn't contain this information. Why this file doesn't contain that information? My secret information source told me, that this is a special case of creating ifcfg file at the end of the installation (just to make possible to continue the installation after reboot). It's create by a special script called from installation/network_finish.ycp and the script name is: '/sbin/create_interface'. It's neither part of the yast2-installation nor yast2-network. This ifcfg file contains only these keys: BOOTPRO, UNIQUE, STARTMODE at least network needs key NAME with Interface Name from hwinfo. I deleted the Beta1 installation sources with YaST and then tried to configure the new 10.2 Beta2 installation source (wanted to do "System Update" after that). It is not possible to add the 10.2 Beta2 i386 DVD tree as source because "/var/tmp/TmpDir.w4RLwo/DATA/content.key contains no valid public key"... This error message is erroneous. /var/tmp/TmpDir.w4RLwo/ does not exist. This can be seen at the attachment (see subsequent comment) with the outputs of lshal --monitor, udevmonitor and /var/log/messages. Sometimes, however, the hotplugging seems to be completely unaware of plugging/unplugging events. I have NO problem, once the device files (.e.g. /dev/sda) are generated. I DO have problems, due to the non-creation of such device files SOMETIMES. The bug is not systematically repeatable in the sence, that I could say, that it would happen every 5th plugging/unpluggin event or that it would happen with a specific device. Once the problem occurs, the only solution seems to be a reboot - I have the impression (can not proof) that a even a complete shutdown/restart is necessary to fix the problem. Devices are * A memory stick (Swissbit) with a strange partitioning (which is NOT the problem) * A NIKON D70s camera * A multi card reader Workaround: Completely unloading/relodaing the usb modules (down to the core) solves the problem. There is no need to restart HAL. I have tried packman's libxine and libxine (source install) but I still have the same problem. If I watch a movie using kaffeine, sound skips as well. However, if I play et, sound is okay. Changing the sound system settings doesn't help (disabling arts, increasing the sound buffer, etc). DMA mode is on (by default). This problem was found on openSUSE 10.2 Alpha 4 and hasn't been fixed on openSUSE 10.2 Beta 1.
