Now, I have to abort whole installation, quit, run it again (so the source list will be refreshed), select all the packages I selected before AGAIN and run installation. People who use that sort of thing should /NOT/ be faced with messages like this. BB: There is no method of dealling with the information presented. If I tick "OK" I end up back at the updater screen, ready to start again. This does not help. In YAST dependency errors produce a clever decision tree structure to help you sort out what you want to do about the problems. Zen Updater does not do this, nor does it "uncheck" the packages with problems after I press OK. If I am blindingly clever I may be able to guess which ones to uncheck by decoding the error message. Or I might spend all morning doing one at a time to find out which ones are affected. Or I might give up and go back to windows. It won't do. It won't impress migrating users, and frankly it doesn't impress me as an old unix hand. As a result starting install software brings up a Zen-Installer window with a "Getting list" (or words to that effect) and the CPU goes to near 100% with zen-installer for a long period of time. It appears to be hung. This is poor from a human factors standpoint. There should be: - some kind of progress indicator - some way to skip the update (I would not use the word "abort" here as that implies total program abort) so that one can do a quick install of something that is already media-local. There are several problems with this: 1) There is no new dialog for this. This just happens in popups while dialog "Novell Customer Center Configuration" is active. 2) There are often error 500 returned from webserver for different files. Choosing "OK" seems to proceed without further problems, but i did not check so far if these extra installation sources were added properly 3) After addition of these extra sources the dialog "Novell Customer Center Configuration" is still shown for about 20 seconds without any action. If user waits patiently it proceeds to the next dialog. But the time he has to wait is to long. SYMPTOM: Suddenly unable to login via SSH using Windows Domain logid (i.e., mydomain\jdoe) that worked earlier. /var/log/messages shows the following errors when a domain user tries to login: Sep 13 13:55:48 pcp060308pcs sshd[24767]: error: PAM: User not known to the underlying authentication module for illegal user ipss\\ub49006 from xpn-l3a7281-udp01019032uds.uboc.com Sep 13 13:55:48 pcp060308pcs sshd[24767]: Failed keyboard-interactive/pam for invalid user ipss\\ub49006 from 10.20.32.36 port 4265 ssh2 ROOT CAUSE: Apparently occurs if a priviliged user (root) goes into YaST Control Center > Network Services > Windows Domain Membership and then ABORTS or cancels. Regardless if any changes were made or if the changes were left as-is, this has the effect of breaking domain authentication. To resolve, simply click FINISH next time and confirm by trying to log into an SSH session with a domain logid. WORK-AROUND TO RESOLVE WHEN AUTHENTICATION IS BROKEN: 1. As root (or privileged account), open the YaST Control Center > Network Services > Windows Domain Membership. 2. Confirm the following are filled out and checked: Domain: Your FQDN x Also use SMB Information for Linux Authentication x Create Home Directory on Login x Offline Authentication Sharing by Users is optional. 3. Click Finished. NOTE: Even if the above are already set, clicking FINISHED seems to re-write the configuration and/or restart the services that re-read the configuration, which in turn seems to resolve the problem, until the above steps are repeated again causing the problem to re-manifest. NOTE: If the login failed and the above steps are followed, you will need to close out the original session and start a new SSH session; otherwise, the original session will always fail at the login prompt regardless of following the above steps and will make it appear that the above fix is not working. It should be copied from /var/adm/fillup-templates/sysconfig.SuSEfirewall2, but that does not happen, so the copy in sysconfig is an older one. However, in a new installation the file in /etc/sysconfig is correct. If I attempt "zen-updater" I get the icon. Clicking it brings up a window called Software Updater. With vesa driver or fglrx with older X.org fan was quite (and it was on with fglrx only when some heavy 3d application worked). Using rovclock I could lower freq of gpu/memory of radeon. It makes radeon quite but I want radeon to lower its freq dynamicly. In YAST, LDAP client, when I click Fetch DN it says LDAP server cannot be connected. When I leave chroot and do the same, LDAP is connected and info retrieved 2. in chroot I was not able to do scp, I got 'PRNG is not seeded'. Discovered that the wpa_supplicant was not working/loading correctly Seems to me that the YAST network module is not configuring the wpa_supplicant correctly.
