[opensuse-autoinstall] Is there a Package Resolver pre-flight check

Dear folks, Is there a programme I can run that will verify that the packages in a customised autoinst.xml file are correct and won't fail the package resolver? not that I know of. The most reliable way is to boot at least into the proposal screen of yast. -- ciao, Uwe Gansert Uwe Gansert SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Markus Rex, HRB 16746 (AG Nürnberg) Business: http://www.suse.de/~ug listening to: "Black Heart [coeur triste]" by Edge Of Dawn -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-autoinstall+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-autoinstall+help@opensuse.org

Yes, this is what I have done, but it is tiresome after the fiftieth time. I have to make a lot of different profile for many machines. This is why some sort of dependency checker would be very useful. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-autoinstall+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-autoinstall+help@opensuse.org

True.. and it would be really cool to have almost an installation simulation. The next best thing I use anymore for image development to save needs for using a full machine to test imaging is kvm instances on my desktop. Adding in the usessh pieces allows one to get on with multiple shells and troubleshoot/watch the steps to make sure it's working ok too.. then just ^C the qemu/kvm process once you get past the initial steps (IME if partitioning starts, everything, save chroot/post scripts worked). These allow me to test our full pxe install bits too. I recommend adding in the -no-kvm-pit-reinjection flag for anyone that tries this.. else you'll likely see clock drift on systems you leave running (that ntp can't keep up with). -- Mike Marion-Unix SysAdmin/Staff IT Engineer-http://www.qualcomm.com Brian: "So enlighten us, what's your idea of the perfect man?" yes, that's a good point. I do my tests with virtualbox on my desktop and only sometimes I use real hardware. Together mit "usessh" I can do profile tests quite fast without rebooting all the time. But I can see the point in the request to test a software section before using it. I talked to the resolver developer and I put that on my TODO to look at it. You can test the second stage of the installation with ayast_setup[1] but for the first stage stuff, there is no other solution than a virtual machine yet. [1] docu on my homepage (http://www.suse.de/~ug/). It's part of autoyast since SUSE Linux 10.3 but not in SLES10. You can copy the client to a SLES10 and it will work there too. -- ciao, Uwe Gansert Uwe Gansert SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Markus Rex, HRB 16746 (AG Nürnberg) Business: http://www.suse.de/~ug -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-autoinstall+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-autoinstall+help@opensuse.org

True.. and it would be really cool to have almost an installation simulation. Hm, AFAIK the ayast_setup.ycp allow software installation after an initial installation.
In case this is correct. - Do a minimal installation - thus what must be installed anyway. - Make a snapshot - Test your software profile with ayast_setup.ycp - revert to snapshot - Redo your test. Does not look to complicate Cheers Hajo -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-autoinstall+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-autoinstall+help@opensuse.org
