Hello, I am using the network installation method to install SLES9 and providing an nfs path to the autoinst.xml file. Now the two issues that I am facing with all/ any of my installations are: 1. The system displays the following error: "Your computer does not fulfill all requirements for a graphical installation. There is less than 96MB memory or the X server could not be started. As a fallback, the text found-end of YaST will guide you through the installation. This front-end offers the same functionality as the graphical one, but the screens differ from those in the manual." ... and the entire installation is in text mode. 2. After displaying the message in (1) above; when autoyast tries to read the control (autoinst.xml) file; it truncates the path to that file then asks for the same path again which was correctly defined at the PXE "boot:" prompt. Once the path to autoinst.xml is entered again the entire installation goes fine unattended in text mode and the system comes up with graphics/ video correctly configured. Any suggestions to resolve these issues will be highly appreciated. Thank you, Ajay

you should not care too much. This has nothing to do with the following error.
2. After displaying the message in (1) above; when autoyast tries to read the control (autoinst.xml) file; it truncates the path to that file then asks for the same path again which was correctly defined at the PXE "boot:" prompt.
I can not reproduce that. Autoyast profile on nfs is working fine here and I use PXE too. Take a look at the /var/log/YaST2/y2log maybe there is a hint -- ciao, Uwe Gansert Uwe Gansert, Server Technologies Team SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, Maxfeldstrasse 5, D-90409 Nürnberg, Germany e-mail: uwe.gansert@suse.de, Tel: +49-(0)911-74053-0, Fax: +49-(0)911-74053-476, Web: http://www.suse.de
Thank you very much for the response.

I understand that installation goes just fine in text mode, but still... is it a bug !! Any workaround available ??

I checked this log file but couldn't find why this happened. However here are some of the related lines from that file which clearly show that the actual file is "static.xml" and not "st" on abc:/home sh-2.05b# grep -i abc /var/log/YaST2/y2log* y2log:2005-06-10 18:36:01 <1> linux(2709) [YCP] AutoinstConfig.ycp:214 urltok = $["fragment":"", "host":"abc", "pass":"" , "path":"*/home/st*", "port":"", "query":"", "scheme":"nfs", "user":""] y2log:2005-06-10 18:36:01 <1> linux(2709) [YCP] AutoinstConfig.ycp:295 cmd line=*nfs://abc/home/st* y2log-1:2005-06-10 12:32:54 <1> (none)(1543) [YCP] AutoinstConfig.ycp:214 urltok = $["fragment":"", "host":"abc", "pass" :"", "path":"*/home/st*", "port":"", "query":"", "scheme":"nfs", "user":""] y2log-1:2005-06-10 12:32:54 <1> (none)(1543) [YCP] AutoinstConfig.ycp:295 cmd line=*nfs://abc/home/st* y2log-1:2005-06-10 12:33:37 <1> linux(1543) [YCP] AutoinstConfig.ycp:214 urltok = $["fragment":"", "host":"abc", "pass": "", "path":"*/home/static.xml*", "port":"", "query":"", "scheme":"nfs", "user":""] y2log-1:2005-06-10 12:33:37 <3> linux(1543) [bash] ShellCommand.cc(shellcommand):73 mount: abc:/home/rules/ failed, reason given by server: No such file or directory sh-2.05b# Thanks once again. Add "textmode=1" to the kernel command line, so that graphical installation is not attempted. -- Martin Vidner, YaST developer SuSE CR, s.r.o. e-mail: mvidner@suse.cz Drahobejlova 27 tel:+420-296542373 190 00 Praha 9, Czech Republic http://www.suse.cz

I don't know why the X server could not be started. Does it start on a non-autoyast installation?

just a guess. Can it be that your linuxrc command line has more than 255 characters? Then the last characters would be cut off. Maybe that's it? Do you use SLES9 SP1? I just tested on SLES9 SP1 and it's fine there. -- ciao, Uwe Gansert Uwe Gansert, Server Technologies Team SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, Maxfeldstrasse 5, D-90409 Nürnberg, Germany e-mail: uwe.gansert@suse.de, Tel: +49-(0)911-74053-0, Fax: +49-(0)911-74053-476, Web: http://www.suse.de

You are correct. Even with non-autoyast installation the problem is there.

No, the entire command that I give at the PXE "boot:" prompt is: boot: *SLES9 autoyast=nfs://abc/home/static.xml* ** Do I have to include all the characters which are there with the "append" statement of "SLES9" label in the PXE "default" file?
