Part of solution: Define what styles as in winter, spring, summer, fall, techno, fantasy travel, green, blue, red, yellow, nature, city, village, country, continent, sea, river, tree, flower, building etc, etc, you want to see applied to next release. 2) Web Wiki, landing page, build, bugzilla, software, etc, need few tons of graphic art, and example should be SUSE Studio. Problem for artists is that there is no common stand what we want there. Make even technical pages easier to swallow, by adding topic related art, plain text that will bore even not so fanaticaly devoted technical minds, or something in between. I recall guy adding pretty pictures somewhere, that were removed short after, with comment "No pretty pictures". It was blatant example of conflict between technical and artist mind. One focused on task at hand and the other flying around topic, not very forcused on task. (No it was not technical topic, to justify art removal.) 3) Applications To create art, videos etc, we need working applications. If that means staticaly linked binaries to certain libraries, so be it. Those that don't like that may help to fix apps to work with ever changing envirnoment, but in the mean time we need working applications. Example is venerable Cinerrela that its author offers for certain libs, included in a package. His words are that he is tired using his time to fix application to fit ever changing environment, spending more time fixing then actually developing. Applications like GIMP, or Inkscape, need templates with our branding, so that not every element must be designed from scratch, following instructions on some web page. It is the same as with software and libraries. Some often used parts must be in template libraries. I do not completely agree with your classification.

* not any application need an openSUSE branding - environments needs it

* there are two kinds of branding: "static" branding, that is branding that have nothing to do with the distribution release sheme. This is wiki, but not only - we could lower our work making for example a definite branding for all the "12" serie (12.1, 12.2....) and distro branding: the part that need to change from one version to the next (splash screen, basic background).

We already know that for now. All that needs to be modified is in the 12.1 artwork git tree.

But, for example, can we agree to have sorted things on early January (one month ahead, but with hollidays)

The release schedule for 12.2 is not set yet. What I mean is to find a general timeline that fits on every release, e.g. deadline for submissions is Milestone 1, Final artwork has to be packaged till Milestone 3.

Green isd fairly strongly associated with openSUSE, so any change have to be really prepared long time ago. For example, I would considere that changing color for 13.1 could be good. keep 12 green, 13 blue, 14 red (just examples). May be we can have a progressive change, but I don't know how.

Maybe green in combination with grey could be an option. Predefining color also limits artwork concepts a lot. And what about photos? Do they have to be green, too?

artwork does not need to be secret. I would rather prefer it to go out to beta-users as early as possible (with Milestone1) to get more feedback. If we don't get anything done until MS1, I propose to put in placeholder artwork, that can be intentionally ugly (I'm good at this:-) and have as text "This space could show your artwork - contribute today - http://en.opensuse.org/Portal:Artwork"

I'm happy with rather abstract pleasant-looking artwork like the 12.1, 11.3 and 11.2 ones.

photos can be problematic in some design aspects (e.g. too much detail distracting from the work at hand) ... but there are certainly good ways to use photos

not a must, but some green is considered a plus in terms of recognizing openSUSE
