SK8V 9.1 works with 2gb hangs with 4gb
Hi- I upgraded to 4gb of ram on my asus sk8v and changed bios so it sees 4gb. However, install hangs and boot hangs at eth0 (DHCP) . ( one . only) If I pull 2gb it boots fine and it works with both with old and new paired and with 1 stick of new and old so I don't think its new memory. Any ideas? Robert (Bob) L. maybe its related to similar problems discussed here: http://lists.suse.com/archive/suse-amd64/2004-Feb/0112.html http://lists.suse.com/archive/suse-amd64/2004-Feb/0114.html so maybe some of the single cpu chipset from via etc. dont support 4gig ram correctly cos of memory mapping issues and so forth, maybe you can try some new bios update or try with less mem, or try different boards/chipsets. cheers, andy

Same topic, does anybody know (1st hand) if the Tyan S2850 board (AMD 8111/8131 chipset) will: 1. address 4 GB (DDR400) correctly (ie completely absent whatever small bits the Bios needs) ? 2. address 8 GB (DDR333) correctly (same caveat) ? Their website says it will, but then Asus' website says their SK8V will also .... ;-) Thanks in advance.
Hi- I will find out on november 4 for DDR333 4GB when my replacement s2850 Mobo from Monarch Computer arrives Bob -----Original Message----- From: William A. Sweet, keep us posted :-).
Andy- I have the bios set to where it recognizes 4GB on boot and the 9.1 install program sez there is 4GB of ram. However Boot after install hangs or hangs after adding back the 2 sticks after 2gb install at eth0 (DHCP) . which seems a bit strange. Dual boot to windows XP 32 bit works with 4gb ram but system thinks it has 2gb (I haven't tried XP 64 as XP 64 had only 25% of performance of XP 32 on my normal work load benchmark) Thanx for suggestion Bob -----Original Message----- From: Andreas Bittner [mailto:abittner@stud.fh-heilbronn.de] Sent: Monday, November 01, 2004 14:24 To: suse-amd64@suse.com Subject: Re: [suse-amd64] SK8V 9.1 works with 2gb hangs with 4gb bob sandefur wrote:
