Sound on ASUS K8V motherboard, SuSE 9.1
Hello I've been completely unsuccessful in getting sound to work on this motherboard. YaST cannot see it at all. However, several people have reported "no problems". Is this with or without tweaking the configuration? What sound driver are you using? According to the documentation, the sound chip is AD1980. Can anyone help this poor sap? Cheers
Does ASUS K8V have got VIA's chips? If so, it might be very difficult to play sound on it. I have got several K8V based motherboards for amd64/754/939, and in my case none of them play sound properly somehow. I tested nForce3-250 based motherboards, and sound, including recording, work fine on them. # I am using the most recent updated kernel, 2.6.5-7.111(?). Good luck! yoriaki fujimori

What is the name of your motherboard? hint: There's an ac'97 plugin for the AD1980, which means there's a different sound driver that you need to use.
Cheers

From what I can gather, your mobo is like mine it use the VIA8237, and the AD1980 for the codec. So, to get your sound going, use the via82xx driver. hth, Örn
