Happy Chrisrmas & Still trying to get the KT8 Bits working

Happy Christmas and thanks for the help so far! I'm trying to get a standard pre-built 2.6 Kernel rpm from Kraxel's directory to make all my HW on the KT8 Neo to work all at once. I'm probably being really stupid but get warnings that it cannot determine the dependencies of ataraid, pdcraid and ata_via during the rpm installation? When I try and modprobe the ata_via module it can't be found (which as far as I can see is right?) Also I have to load the 8139too by hand which again used to work under 2.4.21 during the boot up process. What am I doing wrong? Apologies, if I'm being really dim but this is my first venture into SUSE. Best regards and thanks in advance Gareth gareths.rees@btopenworld.com

Hello, Are there driver or Linux software for SuSE 9.0 for the DR Box 1 from TERRATEC (DAB-Radio with USB interface)? Or where can I get them? Happy Christmas Lothar On Thu, 25 Dec 2003, gareths.rees wrote:

Hi, I am trying to understand the power management on my Athlon 64 3200 system. I need to do this since the fan is running full speed all the time, and its loud. I have heard that the Athlon 64 contains an internal temperature probe. Suse 9.0 is shipped with the lm_sensors package, and running /usr/sbin/ sensors-detect decided correctly that there was an IT8712F SuperIO chip, and arranged for the relevant modules to be loaded. Now the sensors command returns the data below, where the temp readings show random numbers for temp 1 and 3, and always 86C for temp2. I think the 86'C reading is causing the system to spin the fan at full speed, and also slows the clock down almost to the point of lockup unless I use the command rccpufreqd fast So what I need to know is should I persevere trying to get the it87 working, or is there some other module I should be using to measure the temperature of the core of the Athlon 64? Buy a new CPU fan then. There are some very nice quiet ones around now for Athlon64.
I have heard that the Athlon 64 contains an internal temperature probe.

I would not trust lm_sensors very much. You can check the temperature in /proc/acpi
So what I need to know is should I persevere trying to get the it87 working, or is there some other module I should be using to measure the temperature of the core of the Athlon 64?
It sounds more like a BIOS problem. Actually I don't know any boards that even do active CPU fan controlling based on temperature, but I guess it is possible. Linux certainly doesn't do it. -Andi

What am I doing wrong? I don't know it. I did read the kraxel README, but I cannot find the rpm-packages aaa-base, modutils and mkinitrd to update. I think these are the reason. Apologies, if I'm being really dim but this is my first venture into SUSE.

You need to create a new /etc/modprobe.conf The 2.6 modutils don't read the 2.4 modules.conf because they use a slightly different syntax. It needs an alias eth0 <yournetworkdriver> and maybe a few other aliases if you use other drivers. Just copy these lines from the old modules.conf A distribution update would do all this automagically, but that's not written yet. -Andi

You need to create a new /etc/modprobe.conf
via command: /sbin/generate-modprobe.conf | tee /etc/modprobe.conf ?

And what about is with MAKEDEV for device nodes? I cannot load or use sound modules on ASUS Laptop (32-Bit) and Shuttle AMD64. There are the same problems (cannot found symbols). I did run depmod -a already. Where can I read about new sound module options? Lothar.

Yes. This will make a modprobe.conf based on your modules.conf.

This makes some changes in /dev for sound related stuff. You may not need this for 9.0, I did need it on my 8.2 32bit.

Actually, 2.6 wants depmod -ae
already.
Where can I read about new sound module options?
modinfo <module name> Note that 2.6 comes with Alsa .9.7. After .9.3 there was a change in the way OPTIONS were passed to the module. Basically you need to remove the snd_ before the options in modprobe.conf. Hello Joe, many thanks for your informations and help!
Actually, 2.6 wants depmod -ae Yes, I did it now. modinfo <module name> Note that 2.6 comes with Alsa .9.7. After .9.3 there was a change in the way OPTIONS were passed to the module. Basically you need to remove the snd_ before the options in modprobe.conf. I did delete all lines, which contain snd_ from modprobe.conf. Than it works on ASUS Laptop L3800C (32 bit) and my Shuttle AMD 64. From where should I know about that?
DMA for SATA is detected automatically and it seems to work. Fine! But it is a hard work to run the kernel 2.6 because I don't have enougth informations from SuSE to include them in SuSE 9.0 without problems. It is shining a bad light to Kernel 2.6. But there are other problems with USB mass storage and ppp...... and /dev/ttyUSB0 for RS232 connections with modem. It is very hard. ......................................
