cool n quiet on a GA-K8VT800
according to the Gigabyte website, this motherboard is certified to work with the amd64's cool n quiet technology. What do I need to do to enable this feature? Also, does the amd64 2800+ support hypertransport? according to the suseplugger, hypertransport is listed as an unknown. I'd also like to take advantage of this too, if the 2800+ does it.

Just the powersave package from SUSE Linux 9.1/9.2.

hypertransport is nothing you can fiddle with - or the kernel... Andreas -- Andreas Jaeger, aj@suse.de, http://www.suse.de/~aj SUSE Linux Products GmbH, Maxfeldstr. 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany GPG fingerprint = 93A3 365E CE47 B889 DF7F FED1 389A 563C C272 A126

Hypertransport is the technology AMD64 processors use to communicate with one another and with devices like south bridges etc. so every AMD64 processor supports and uses it. It's also nothing that can be fiddled with in software. Philipp -- Philipp Thomas <pth@suse.de> Research & Development SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, Maxfeldstr. 5, D-90409 Nuremberg, Germany
Yes, the GA-K8VT800 supports C'n'Q with Linux. But You should update Your Bios to the latest release. I had with the Bios versions prior F10 problems with my K8VT800 Pro with Linux and C'n'Q. I had to use a unofficial bios version, I got from Gigabyte support to enable C'n'Q with Linux. With F10 everything works fine. Moritz

I've never looked into cool and quiet, but how do you tell if it's working or not?
There is a system monitor that can show the current CPU frequency. With my Athlon 64 3000+ the CPU frequency changes dynamicaly between 1000, 1800 and 2000MHz. And if there is a tool to show the CPU temperature, You can see the temperature decrease when C'n'Q is active. My CPU has a idle temperature of 33°C, using only one lower case fan (2000RPM), the CPU fan (1500RPM) and the PSU fans.
