Re: [suse-amd64] Scilab-2.7 in SuSE8.2beta9 for AMD64
I guess that as a basis for scientific computing, there is a small difference between SuSE and RH distributions. A main point will come to the development environment and libraries, especially malloc(). Yoriaki Fujimori

There're in various places differences ;-) - and 8.2beta9 is a beta and not a final product so has not undergone testing of all components.

What exactly do you want to imply? Sorry, I don't get it. Andreas -- Andreas Jaeger, aj@suse.de, http://www.suse.de/~aj SuSE Linux AG, Deutschherrnstr. 15-19, 90429 Nürnberg, Germany GPG fingerprint = 93A3 365E CE47 B889 DF7F FED1 389A 563C C272 A126
I assume that people tend to recompile files from the first step when they plan to make use of packages in scientific computing. At least I do it myself. I tried to compile some of packages which are interesting to me, in particular lisp systems. Most of them run well on 32bit PC and 64bit Alpha. But, on x86_64, stories go different. By quick and not-well-considered modifications, I came to load binarires under gdb. I have seen similar errors on Linux/x86_64 systems. Please note that this is just a general impression of mine. yoriaki fujimori
