[opensuse-amd64] RE: Help! newbie: openSUSE 12.1 installation failure
I am installing from a full DVD obtained at the recent Los Angeles Linux Conference/Expo.I haven't yet found the chipset that is being used in the system. The disk works successfully on my older AMD Athlon. 1) When system is started, the green openSUSE "Welcome" screen appears, followed by the openSUSE Installation choices menu screen. When the “Install” option is chosen, system displays a window showing “Loading Linux Kernel” (with an increasing % progress line). 3) Instead of the expected License Agreement and Language screen, the system displays AMIBIOS information including hardware test details, RAID details, "ISOLINUX 4.04 ...",then goes back to the openSUSE “Welcome” screen. System repeats this tight loop until I choose “Install from hard disk” option from the openSUSE installation choices menu screen. System then loads Win7. Hi "Chip5", Which main board do you have? As I don't know which main board you have you might have 2 SATA controllers. Which SATA controller are you using for raid. Or do you have a raid card installed, if so which brand/model? I think this issue related to raid. Regards, Joop. On Wed, April 11, 2012 10:17 am, Chip5 - wrote:

It seems different, but on several of the computers I have installed 12.1, I have needed to add nomodeset to the install kernel (ATI graphics) to be able to install (or one was to use the rescue system). On mine it didn't loop, it just seemed to crash and corrupt the graphics, but adding nomodeset is easy enough to try. -- Joe Morris Registered Linux user 231871 running openSUSE 12.1 x86_64 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-amd64+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-amd64+owner@opensuse.org
Given that it's a commercially created media, it's unlikely due to a bad burn (although you didn't say if had actually tried the "check installation media" option. On 04/11/2012 03:17 AM, Chip5 - wrote:

Well, with that setting, it's definitely NOT the IOMMU issue. I suspect that Dieter Klünter <dieter_at_dkluenter_dot_de> was cossect when he wrote:
The culprit most likely is the UEFI settings. Check the bios and set UEFI to legacy mode and modify boot options.
I didn't see any such options in the BIOS settings you displayed, but you didn't ID the mainboard nor the model of HP computer. That info would be helpful, as well. Does the machine boot up successfully with any "Live" media (openSUSE, Ubuntu, Knoppix)? -- Ron Widell | Disclaimer, dat-claimer... r_widell<at>bwig<dot>net | if she's mine, I'll claim 'er. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-amd64+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-amd64+owner@opensuse.org
