The reason that i am thinking is, as i don't have any issue with seamonkey which is 64-bit app, i believe that issue with running 32-bit app of Thunderbird, and Firefox (they only exist in 32-bit) in 64-bit OS.

I do use the SUSE rpms, though. I don't necessarily agree that using rpms will corrupt your rpm database, but IMO installing many programs from source or binaries may eventually cause conflicts. AFAIK, SLES9 can use rpms based on SUSE 9.x, though I am not sure which release is the closest.
