I checked with ldd and it seems like appropriate libs
are picked up.
I remembered that whan I first enabled bytecode
interpreter for 64bit freetype2 lib the fonts were
still ugly until I installed Microsoft libs from YAST
online update. I wonder if I need to do some
configuration for 32bit apps to pick up those fonts
too.
Does anyone have a similar problem ? Do you have the
same quality fonts across 32bit and 64 bit apps ?

You could have built them on the 64bit machine too with -m32.
installed the binaries on my 64 bit Suse thereby updating the 32bit freetype2 libs under /usr/lib. However, this was not successful. But to my surprise it did not screw up anything either.
It should have worked in theory. Perhaps double check with ldd the 32bit application is really using the libraries you expect it to.
