I have a very similar s2885.
My machines crash sistematically when I run large calculations. Thanks for any suggestion and/or experience report.
I had stability issues early on. Mine problems were solved by doing two things: updating the BIOS and replacing some faulty RAM. If you do nothing else, test your ram mercilessly. Run memtest86 overnight (or over the weekend) with the extended tests enabled. The dram timing on these (maybe most) Opteron boards is very demanding. This is compunded by Tyan not allowing the user to change the timing and simultaneously getting them wrong in some configurations. The maker of my dram vendor (OCZ) ended up changing the SPF and switching to different PLL's before they became reliable.
