I think this is the first straight installation I've done of 42.3,
everything else has been an upgrade. I noticed this in the
installatrion summary:

│These packages need to be selected to install: grub2
│Please manually select the needed items to install.

Not sure what to make of it. I don't need grub2.

Using 42.3 release media, 'tis not allowed to not install it. I taboo
all its relatives, direct it to setup on /dev/null, then remove and
zypper lock it on first boot. fix came in
month following 42.3 release, so shouldn't apply to TW or 15.

I was just planning to do my 42.3 upgrade (from 42.2) using the DVD,
which I prefer. Will I encounter this grub2 problem using that media
in upgrade mode?

Only if you don't install grub2.

I should have been more clear in my original question. I don't want to
install grub2. It sounds like the upgrade is going to force me to install
grub2. I wonder if upgrading using the old YaST method would run into the
same problem. I guess no way to know except to try it.
