Re: [opensuse] Playing MP3 without Packman workaround

ffmpeg can be compiled differently. By default within openSUSE Leap up to

be provided. However openSUSE Tumbleweed is nearly there: 2017/06/08/tumbleweed-snapshots-pick-up-pace/
And so might be upcoming versions of openSUSE Leap.

It is worth noting here that the recommended way to install ffmpeg (by the
ffmpeg developers) is to install from the latest git sources and update
regularly the same way. Distro versions are often several versions behind
(speaking generally here) and ffmpeg is actively developed and regularly
updated with bug-fixes and new features.

The developers’ response to bug reports is usually “install the latest git
version and retest”.
