In your kdmrc file there should be a |SessionsDirs which you could edit
to point to a new directory in which you copy over only the sessions
from /usr/share/xsessions which you want to have available.

I made a /etc/X11/only-session and copied the desktops I wanted (kde-plasma.desktop and openbox.desktop) to that directory. And at last changed SessionsDirs accordingly.

At first I got confused because there was several openbox.desktop in the default path, so at first I selected the wrong one. At login it used the same background image as kvm - Leading me to believe that login had failed and just left me with no login entry fields.

Also note: When using autologon - the last one used, seems to be remembered somewhere. So after reboot you need to log out, select one of the available desktops and log in again.

After replacing openbox.desktop with the correct one, everything now works just like I wanted.
