Well, SLED is a GNOME based enterprise desktop, XFCE is probably
also not supported..remember that every single component you add to
an enterprise distribution requires support and R&D time for a

Well, xfce is simple, low weight, and is based on gtk, so most of the
libraries are already installed. IF sled has gnome 3, xfce is a
maintained alternative that feels like gnome 2 for those wanting it.

Gnome 3 requires heavy graphics with proprietary drivers, xfce
doesn't. Haven't you seen that "Oh no! Something went wrong" message
from gnome? You need something else in order to be able to login and
repair, if possible. If not xfce they will have to have something very
simple for emergencies.
