I have an ancient laptop ("Airis GEA N619", with Pentium IV (32 bit), 512 MiB ram, 80 GB HD), running openSUSE 12.3. The screen goes dark after some time both in text mode and X mode (graphics). I think it powers down the display. When this happens, I don't know how to wake it up.

The laptop is active, I work on it via ssh, and it is running fine - but no display. I can blind type on it, too (if I know which terminal has a free prompt)

In X I might be able to configure out DPMS. But text mode? I've never heard how to configure that in text mode. :-?

Or any command to force the display to wake up?

I tried the blue keys (Fn) on the laptop. No go. Actually one of them kills the machine further, it goes to sleep and it has no battery (guess).

Video is "Intel Corporation i845" from "Uniwill Computer Corp". The doc says "Intel® Extreme Graphics". Display has no EDID info.

AmonLanc:~ #

AmonLanc:~ # hwinfo --monitor
AmonLanc:~ #

So, no info at all about the "monitor" or display.

AmonLanc:~ # cat /proc/cmdline
BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-3.7.10-1.16-default root=UUID=...
resume=/dev/disk/by-label/Swap showopts splash=verbose loglevel=3 console=tty1
AmonLanc:~ #

The parameter "vga=791" is necesary, or display goes into unsuported modes, or lower resolution modes. The parameter "display=..." does not work here.
