WTF? Should I blacklist the nouveau driver to force loading of nvidia?

Yes. openSUSE RPM does it automatically.

bor@opensuse:~> cat /etc/modprobe.d/nvidia-desktop.conf
blacklist nouveau
bor@opensuse:~> rpm -qf /etc/modprobe.d/nvidia-desktop.conf

Hm. It seems to be correct. Let's try more experiments. :-)
