You have to look at the output of "smartctl -a /dev/sdc".

Yes, but before doing that, backup the data, because that's a sure sign of death.

I am considering replacing the hdd with a Seagate SATA3 4TB. Will
suse kernel
2.6.38 recognize > 2TB.

Yes. but that's a 2 year old kernel, an eternity in kernel development time (fixes and changes go in at a rate of around 7 per hour, 24/7/365)
