Because that's indeed my case, my system is inherited from 6.2. I see a slight
advantage in
spreading the system over several hard disks (faster), but on new systems I
don't usually bother
to create a separate /usr.

All of which goes to show, I suppose, that there's no such thing as a single
answer for all
occasions!
