Ahh, ok well smartctl -A /dev/sdX will help you there. But I suggest
you investigate the power management side as this can kill drives (See
the smart attribute - Load_Cycle_Count), I turn it off....

hdparm -I /dev/sda |grep acoustic
Recommended acoustic management value: 128, current value: 254

smartctl -A /dev/sda |grep Load
193 Load_Cycle_Count 0x0032 200 200 000 Old_age Always -
