New problem:

Thunderbird and firefox now each use 70% CPU! Previously they kept
under 5%.

If I don't use it for a while, it goes back to 1%, but as soon as I
click somewhere, it goes to 70%. I don't understand it at all.

And now I hibernated four times in succession, and both firefox and
thunderbird remains at 1% cpu or less even when typing. Something
weird with this kernel...

There are weird reports related to the leap second correction at 00:UTC
and servers getting very hot at that hour, corrected by rebooting. Is it
possible?

Then it was not related to my compilation of the kernel. One thing less
to worry about...
