segment the NFS server is on and which Ethernet port connects to that

Yes.

Allthough I still would not really recommend to optimize the deps too
much by hardcoding such "external knowledge" because you will have a
lot more work in case hardware or network changes.

IMO the highest aim is to have completely identical config on all
clients regardless different hardware or dynamic config stuff (dns,
network, users, etc).
