John, the Dell Inspiron 1525 exceeds all of the above. ;) If you get one, DO
order it with the Intel 3948 wifi card....NOT the Dell wifi and 2Ghz.

And I can't get Dell's web site to even cough up a
guestimate of battery runtime.

I don't run on battery, so I can' tell you.......there is a 9 cell option with SHOULD give you around 2 hrs. time. Yes....I know it's bigger and heavier, but it's NOT "bad" IMHO. For the money, it's one of the best built QUICK laptops for the money available. 11.0 and KDE 3.* with ALL the effects bells and whistles running is still quicker than Vista.....yeah....I know, that might not be saying a whole lot. ;)
