As for chicken/egg: I've never seen a laptop that supported

The Macbook Air supports wifi, but requires a USB adaptor in order to
support a wired Ethernet connection.

I stand corrected.

Which Linux distro runs best(or at all) on the Macbook Air?

I'm guessing ubuntu - but perhaps not til 8.10

Joe

I might be in the market for something like the Air if it had a runtime
longer than a cup of coffee and was a bit more durable.

Any other recommendations for:
super thin,
lightweight ultra portable
reasonable screen size
not too slow
can run Linux

If you can wait a couple years, the XO-2 should be perfect. (If you
have really small hands!!) ;)

Seriously, I suspect the technology the OLPC team is forging is going
to allow some great advances in the area you are looking into.
