[opensuse] firefox mplayer plugin stealing data files

I just tried to open a text file that has a .dat extension in firefox.
Instead, the mplayer plugin starts up.

I've looked in the download actions dialog and it says mplayer should
handle MP2, MPGA and FLI files. It doesn't show anything handling .DAT
files.

I've looked in ~/.mozilla/firefox/pluginreg.dat and there's a lot more
there! I don't know what it means, but there's no DAT. (see below)
Incidentally if I say "firefox pluginreg.dat", mplayer tries to play
that file.

Is there any less drastic cure than just disabling the plugin altogether?

Oh, this is an old firefox: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-GB;
rv:1.8.0.10) Gecko/20060911 SUSE/1.5.0.10-0.2 Firefox/1.5.0.10

Thanks, Dave
