That is exactly my problem, and indeed the 'workaround' I've been living
with so far: open another KDE session after playing around in e.g.
gnome, and before shutting down.

The other option is to remember to do an Alt+T at the logon screen, verify which was the last used DE and change to the one you want.


Sure that would do, if it wasn't because I enabled the Auto-Login feature of KDM. It starts the last session used, without me getting a chance to choose ;-)
