[SLE] postfix and SSH (TLS) plus smtp_auth

I am testing (without success so far) using our companies smtp server as
our relay host. I am running here at home 10.1 x86_64 w/ stock postfix
(but also tried the snapshot). I have been searching for 2 days and
haven't found my problem. As a test, I tried to set it up for gmail and
am having the same problem. I have tested the authentication and know
it works on a different relayhost, but changing the sasl_passwd file and
enabling smtp_use_tls = yes and adding the port number 465 to the
relayhost still doesn't work. Any ideas to get the SuSE postfix to work
with smtp.gmail.com? When I get that one working I'm sure I can get the
companies going.
