Considered that and turned it off.

I went back and uninstalled Samba. Reinstalled it after rebooting the system (I know, I don't need to, but just in case /-) ). Then, instead of replacing the default smb.conf file with my old one, I incorporated the old shares into the new one and changed the workgroup name.

Last, I blew away the smbpasswd file and rebuilt it from scratch.

That worked!!!
