Here is a line from my /boot/grub/menu.lst:
title MIT4370
kernel (hd0,4)/boot/vmlinuz root=/dev/hda5 vga=0x314 splash=verbose
desktop showopts PROFILE=MIT4370
initrd (hd0,4)/boot/initrd

I have these profiles set up because I take my laptop to several
different environments.
