"Monitor out of Range", what to do then?

Hit ctrl-alt-f2 to get to an old style black'n'white text login prompt.
ctrl-alt-f1 has a neat, graphical looking text login that just might work

Hit '3' and enter to boot to runlevel 3, which is identical to runlevel 5 (the default) except there is no graphical login.

Thanks for fast reply.

And with the command line login (tried ctrl-alt-f1), the next step is to change/edit the graphical configuration (resolution, frequency and color depth).
The question is where and how?
