Printing Question

I hardly ever print stuff, but I had to print an image tonight. I used the
Gimp to open the image, and sent it to my Epson Stylus Color 900 (on the
Parallel port). The default printer for the Gimp was set up wrong, and I
didn't realize this until I pressed the print button... so a bunch of garbage
was printing on the pages coming out of my printer!

I used "cancel" to cancel the print job, and verified that it was history by
typing "lpq" at the command line.. it said no entries... yet the printer was
still printing.

I shut off the printer, waited a minute and turned it back on again... no
luck, it was still printing! I actually had to shut down my machine in order
to get it to stop.

What can I do if this happens again, so that I don't have to reboot my
machine to "fix it"?

Thanks for any help,

Steven Hatfield

Q: "Do you recall approximately the time you examined the body of Mr.
Edington at the Rose Chapel?"
A: "It was in the evening. The autopsy started about 8:30 P.M."
Q: "And Mr. Edington was dead at that time, is that correct?"
A: "No, you stupid bastard, he was sitting on the table wondering why I was
doing an autopsy!"
