Lourens said to John :

/etc/ppp/options is configured for:
mtu 576
mru 542
asyncmap 0

The wvdial window shows the mtu (?) param:
Entering PPP mode.
Async interface address is unnumbered (FastEthernet0/0/0)
Your IP address is 196.31.176.201. MTU is 1500 bytes

Running ifconfig during a session gives mtu (?) as:
ppp0 Link encap:Point-to-Point Protocol
inet addr:196.31.176.201 P-t-P:196.2.32.2 Mask:255.255.255.255
UP POINTOPOINT RUNNING NOARP MULTICAST MTU:576 Metric:1

/var/log/messages reports mru and asyncmap as:

Is /var/log/messages indicating that mru is being set to 1500 and that
asyncmap is being set to 0??

I am confused ??

Any thoughts?

Bye.

It's a thankless job, but I've got a lot of Karma to burn off.
