Subject: ftape - parport_pc on 2.4.2 kernel

From: basslake <basslake@xxxxxxxxxxxx>

Hi
I'm still having problems figuring this out, because I don't want to recompile unnecessarily.
SuSE70-kernel-2.2.16 or -2.4.2 -
I have ftape installed to use for backups, it works fine if I boot to my 2.2.16 kernel & modules.
When I boot to 2.4.2, I get a difference in /var/log/messages, on parport_pc than when booting 2.2.16.

excerp from /usr/src/linux/2.2.16/config - parport - paride section.
CONFIG_PARPORT=m
CONFIG_PARPORT_PC=m
CONFIG_PARPORT_OTHER is not set
CONFIG_PARIDE_PARPORT=m
CONFIG_PARIDE=m
CONFIG_PARIDE_BPCK=m

2.2.16 kernel /var/log/messages - ftape works fine with 2.2.16 kernel, and modules for ftape.

whatzzz- zzup ?? - am I the hoser here ? , ( maybe I didn't set correctly in paride,-parport kernel-config?
or was something changed in the 2.4.2 kernel modules for paride-parport, that causes ftape not to function
properly.??

I see a difference between the 2.2.16, and the 2.4.2 modules - parport for pc characteristics:

with 2.2.16 kernel, /var/log/messages = 'parport0: PC-style at 0x378, irq 7 [SPP,PS2,EPP]' ftape works
with 2.4.2 kernel, /var/log/messages ='parport0: PC-style at 0x378, irq 7 [PCSPP,TRISTATE,EPP]' ftape not working

Were, [SPP,PS2,EPP], changed somehow for the 2.4.2 kernel? if not then I could have clone config'd, and corrected them
for my paride, parport_pc modules, if they have been changed somehow , then I have no clue at this point. !

Is there a way to compile, the corrected module, parport_pc, without having to recompile (make cloneconfig)
the entire kernel ??

Maybe someone from SuSE can spot me a clue here -
thanks for help and any advise.
John WM
