In short: the file system keeps a separate log of all transactions that
have been made on it. So there is no need to do a complete check of the
full fule system, when it has been unmounted uncleanly (e.g. due to a
crash), replaying the journal is enough. The advantage: no hour-long file
system checks on reboot ;)
