[opensuse] Master Volume zero after reboot
Every time after a reboot I have to readjust the master volume from 0. I have looked if this feature is somewhere configured but did not find anything which could be of help. Could somebody be of assistance? -- Linux User 183145 using KDE4 on a Pentium IV , powered by openSUSE 12.1 (i586) Kernel: 3.4.0-26-desktop KDE Development Platform: 4.8.3 (4.8.3) "release 504") 13:30pm up 0:41, 3 users, load average: 1.44, 1.30, 1.29 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
hello, I'm not sure if it's good to post links here, but I searched Google for "kde master volume config" and the first result looks good. :kubuntu forums: There is mentioned ~/.kde/share/config/ ~/.kde/share/config/kmixctrlrc ~./kde/share/config/kmixrc I am not using kde so can't test/check but I imagine these files might not change much from version to version. I see the post is from 2009, worth a look though. eric On Tue, 2012-06-05 at 13:37 +0700, Constant Brouerius van Nidek wrote:

One could indeed move the kmix files to rule out that it is kmix and not alsa or pulseaudio at fault. For openSUSE it would be .kde4 though. I remember that there was the option to save volumes at the end of a session, so that might help as well. kmix rules are not at fault. Indeed looking for an option to save volumes and are still looking. It is certainly not an unknown problem but in all the googling I did not find a working solution. -- Linux User 183145 using KDE4 on a Pentium IV , powered by openSUSE 12.1 (i586) Kernel: 3.4.1-27-default KDE Development Platform: 4.8.3 (4.8.3) "release 504") 16:10pm up 3:41, 3 users, load average: 1.03, 1.17, 1.40 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

You can check whether it is a config issue by creating a new user and testing with that account. If it does not happen there it is some config in your home. Otherwise I would check what alsa/pulseaudio settings state. You could e.g. boot into runlevel 3, i.e. no KDE and check what volumes are set. Constant, Sometimes this issue come from deeper than application. Please, go via YaST->Hardware->Sound-> You will find your Sound Device probably highlighted (if not make it), move your pointer down to the right corner on the Option button. Make a click on it and it will show the Volume option. Make a click on Volume option, this will open a window showing Master Volume and PCMB. There, on Master Volume, check the right volume is higher enough by sliding it to the top right. Close it and your problems could go away. Logout and Login. If the problem is solved please send a mail adding SOLVED. I have the same problem in one of my machines (the others are fine). Only it's not just at reboot, but every time I logout and login, the volume of Front in YaST->Hardware->Sound->Other->Volume is set back to zero. And this particular volume cannot be controlled by KMix, only in YaST. It drives me nuts. -- Carlos F Lange -- Recursive: Adj. Carlos, is there a difference in setup of the machines? That could give an indication where to look at. Forgot indeed that logout or reboot have the same effects. A new user handles the sound in the same way. No solution there. Not really. I follow religiously the standard setup that I prepare for all my lab students ( http://goo.gl/khFNw ). The only difference is hardware. But I think there should be a config file somewhere where YaST stores these values, isn't there? Actually, there is one difference. I installed Rosegarden and KMid and VMPK only in this machine. No Rosegarden and KMid for me. Nothing special at the sound side of my setup. Could clean up some volume programs like KMix Gamix and so and see if that helps. Actually, there is one difference. I installed Rosegarden and KMid and VMPK only in this machine. I will try uninstalling them.
I would like to see that removing applications helps, but it looks more like driver issue (new user has the same problem). It could be that audio setup is not sure that device will work properly so it keeps sound low and let user adjust audio manually. Output of: lspci -nnk lsmod would be helpful to search for more information. -- Regards, Rajko -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Here is the complete output from both commands.
