Monitor Driver for Sampo Alphascan 712 ...
For those following my previous posts, I finally got SuSE 8.2 installed via FTP (the trick was to install it on my PIII 550/ 256MB RAM/ 13GB IDE and 2x9.2GB SCSI HDs - I got rid of the Mandrake 9.0 I was running. I think that Pentium 120 is headed for the closet floor.) During my attempts to install 8.2 I came across a document explaining how to install and run 2 monitors with two video cards using SaX2. I have two monitors installed and they are both running really well, only problem is.. my 17" Sampo Alphascan 712 (Monitor 1) will not go to 1024x768 as the 17" CTX (Monitor 0) will. I've looked and looked and I cannot find any Linux Drivers for the Sampo Alphascan 712, other than MS 98 drivers. Is there a trick to getting them both the same resolution or a location online that has Linux drivers for monitors. Thanks, -=Thinker

Monitors don't need drivers. What the OS needs is a description of the monitors capabilities, i.e. horizontal and vertical frequency ranges. These Windows drivers are nothing other then text files in a special format.

Sax2 can read the .inf files for windows. The other alternative is to directly tell sax2 what resolution the monitor provides. Philipp
Philip, Thanks for the info. I looked again, and it seems that the driver sites that google returns has drivers for every Sampo monitor but the one I am looking for. I did find the specs. I plugged the Vertical and Horizontal Ranges in SaX2, but nothing changed. I am stuck at 800x600. Here are the specs I have on the monitor. How do I make SaX2 know this information ? Sampo Alphascan 712 (KM-712) Size: 17" (16" Diagonal Viewable Area) Dot Pitch: 0.27mm Type: Flat Square Tube Resolution: 1280 x 1024 @ 66Hz H-Freq.: 30 KHz ~ 72 KHz V-Freq.: 50 Hz ~ 160 Hz Dot Rate: 110 MHz On Fri, 2003-08-01 at 17:03, Philipp Thomas wrote:
