Hello Keith, Thank you for your reply. Did you try to set up it as a stripped raid 0? What was a result? Thanks. Alex -------------------
Just today I set up 2 x 30Gb IBM IDE drives as raid 1. I went and issued "mkreiserfs /dev/md0" and got a memory overflow error and the whole system went into a loop (a reset was the only way out, I could not even telnet to it from another PC.) I hadn't time to do anything more about it so I formatted it with mk2efs instead. If anyone has set up a similar system, I would be grateful of their knowledge.

I couldn't find any certain information about this. Some sources say that it's duable and some that it's not. Thanks for any information. Alex

Hi Alex,
No, I was setting up raid1 - mirroring. I only was able to mess with it for
about 30 minutes or so, then I had to give up a format it as ext2fs.
I have just received a Promise fasttrak 100 controller and I wonder has
anyone succesfully configured it SuSE 7.1
If anyone has any info I would be very grateful.

I have several machines running 7.1 (2.4.2 kernel, lvm 0.9.1B6, and the
latest reiser tool) with multi-level md devices (RAID 0+1) and using lvm
snapshots on top of that. It runs pretty reliably, and the snapshots are
great for doing DB backups.
Do you have specific questions?

What size of drives are you using, I thought that my problem may be related
to the fact that they are 30Gb - although by today's standards that isn't
huge.........

I am using the IBM Deskstar 75 GXP 75 GB ATA 100 disks. I will tell you
that I have run into some issues with promise cards... I am currently
using a 3Ware card. I have also had decent results with the SIIG cards.
The trick with the software RAID is getting the software to recognize when
a failure occurs. It seems the best way around this is to limit your
config to 1 IDE disk per controller.
